If you’ve been on this site or seen our social profiles over the last few days, you will know that we have spent some time at this years London Comic Con. There we’re many games being showcased at the event, including Agents Of Mayhem, Bloody Zombies and the impressive Farpoint for PSVR, but probably the one taking up the most floor space, with 15+ playstations available to play AND a pretty cool boxing ring / sofa arena, was of course, Tekken 7.
That’s right, after 8 years away from the gaming market, Tekken is coming back and coming back with a bang! If you are of a similar age to camp Nuovo (25-30), then you may have been brought up with the Tekken franchise, and you will know how fun this button bashing game was. Well, at this years London Comic Con, the team sat down to play a few rounds of Tekken 7 to see if any of those childhood memories came back and whether it was still as good as we remembered……and yeh, I enjoyed it!
The game follows the same game type and structure as the classics, so there will be a single player story mode, a multiplayer mode for you and a friend, plus a new online tournament mode, where you will be able to compete with upto 7 other players, with single and double elimination formats, and you can also text and voice chat abuse about your opponents mum. Ok, maybe don’t do that.
“Play though a seamless story experience with Hollywood-like, over-the-top action sequences blended seamlessly into fierce battles. Tekken 7 represents the final chapter of the 20-year-long Mishima feud. Unveil the epic ending to the emotionally charged family warfare between the members of the Mishima Clan as they struggle to settle old scores and wrestle for control of a global empire, putting the balance of the world in peril.”
There are 10 new fighters to choose from, as well as many of the original and well loved fighters, such as Eddy Gordo, Jin, Paul, King, Yoshimtsu and of course, Heihachi himself. All of the classic fighters have had a little upgrade/make over but they are in essence, completely the same, even down to characteristics and move types. I also believe there was new and old arenas to fight in, and plenty to choose from.
Graphically, very colourful, vibrant and overall beautiful on the PS4’s we were playing on. We could only play a 2 player fight but the game play resembles the classic games and you just have to button bash…bash…and bash again.
While we were at the Con, they had a Tekken 7 tournament, where the tournament had been traveling around the country, to find the top fighters, to compete in the grand final at the Con on Friday. Best of 3 games, winner takes all, and the prize, which I believe was a belt of sorts. I didn’t see the prize but by the sounds of it, it resembled a WWE belt. Watching the match on the big screen, accompanied by some cracking commentators, made for a very exciting and enjoyable final.
Tekken 7 comes out on both Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC, on 2nd June 2017. If you loved the classics, you will love this!
