Founded just down the road from us in sunny Essex, The SkyCam offer a variety of aerial drone video footage and imagery, that can be used for a lot more than you might think…#VlogLife! Anyway, The SkyCam have branched out across the UK, with more than 50 CAA qualified pilots, in multiple locations, with the latest addition being the beautiful city of Bath.
The SkyCam can pretty much document whatever you want, including but not limited to:
- Events, such as mountain biking, motor-cross, snowboarding, surfing, sailing or running based events.
- Building inspections of roofs, chimneys, towers, stadiums, wind turbines or general construction progress over several months.
- General travel and tourism. Think sandy beaches and golf course!
- Footage to showcase a property when coming to sell it.
- Weddings…outside ones obliviously.
If you can imagine it, it can be done!
The SkyCam’s qualified pilots fly only the latest tech, DJI Phantom 4 Pro+ or Mavic Pro’s to be exact, so they are able to to provide high definition quality video and photos. Footage captured is edited to suit your needs, so videos can include background music and text, to offer that professional cinematic vibe.
We spoke to the man in charge of the Bath area, Martin Crawley and asked him a couple of questions!
Q: There seems to be plenty of drone operators around – why should I choose The SkyCam?
Our pilots are fully insured and all hold the Civil Aviation Authority Permission for Commercial Operations (PfCO). With Nationwide coverage, The SkyCam is the largest group of drone operators in the UK all under one umbrella – with 50 active pilots you can be assured that we fully support nationwide photography and videography requirements. Safe operation is paramount to us and a number of pre-flight checks will be carried out beforehand. We therefore urge clients to choose their drone operator carefully.
Q: So there’s more to it than simply turning up and flying?
Correct. During the initial consultation The SkyCam Bath will work with the client to understand their requirements. Aviation and Ordinance Survey maps will be checked in advance to understand if flying in restricted airspace, as well as get an understanding of any overhead obstructions. Pre-site survey and paperwork will be completed. Before the flight, any relevant Notice to Airman (NOTAMS) for the area will be checked as well as the meteorological conditions. On the day of the flight, a site inspection will be carried out, before final checks are made (weather conditions; obstructions, drone condition). The pilot-in-command will then make the final GO / NO-GO decision.
Q: Are the images high quality?
Absolutely – we use the latest state-of-the-art drones (The SkyCam Bath operates with a DJI Phantom 4 Pro+). The camera is a 1-inch, 20 megapixel mechanical shutter with Full HD capable of 4K / 60fps video; burst mode stills at 14fps and a variety of supported photo and video types.
Q: Do you provide the RAW footage or is editing part of the service?
Both – as part of the “brief” we understand that some of our clients require the RAW footage and will go on to edit themselves, otherwise The SkyCam Bath can edit both still images and video. This is priced separately and will be discussed during the initial consultation. We guarantee satisfaction and work with our clients until they are completely satisfied with the results.
