Okay, so this is cool. The future of motor vehicles is here. And I’m not talking about high powered engines, or even self-driving technology here. Those things are here already. I’m talking about the new LIT|IS from luxury car manufacturer Lexus. The car was created to highlight the sleek styling of the new IS 2017 range, and has been covered in a little under 42,000 LEDs; 41,999 to be exact. So why they couldn’t put on one more LED to round it off is beyond me, and quite frankly, a little frustrating for my even number OCD.
The new Lexus LIT|IS was featured quite heavily as a love interest character type in singer Dua Lipa’s new music video for her song “Be The One”. The catchy tune topped UK charts. Ansel Elgort, known for his role in Divergent also stared as a former lover to Lupa, but who really cares about that? The Lexus lights up! No wonder she left him for the car.
This project is the first of its kind, and has really been used so Lexus can highlight some of the curves that they have implemented on the car. The Lexus is just one step further for the car industry to combine technology, design and art all in one package. It’s absolutely beautiful and can be seen in the video below.
The LEDs, which were hand applied one by one basically turns the car into one giant 3D screen, being able to show off proper RGB colours. The “screen” is able to broadcast full colour animations which can be controlled using hand signals when set to its Gesture Mode, and music frequencies when selected on Musc Biz. The third mode called Attract runs a custom animation loop that highlights the strong lines of the new IS 2017. What more, the LED strips would reach the half a mile mark if fully stretched, and the extremely bright 175,000 lumens means that this would definitely not be missed driving down the road.
“A car as visually striking as the LIT IS required an equally dramatic debut,” said Brian Bolain, Lexus general manager of product and consumer marketing. “A music video was a perfect place to launch the LIT IS and working with Dua Lipa allowed the concept to come to life, putting a spotlight on the Lexus IS in an entirely new way.”
