As we all know fashion goes around in circles, and right now we have hit a very furry phase. Beards. Having the bottom half of your face styled into bushy designs seems to be what the every day male is aiming for. It’s so recognised as a major fashion that new app Bristlr is using the fuzzy fashion to their advantage.

Bristlr is a brand new dating app built for people looking for lovers with beards.

After creating my account I was met with a list of bearded men, advertising themselves in a dating profile way. Males were talking about their ambitions, why they’re here, their interests and so on. There is even an option for non bearded men to sign up, so don’t worry if you’re like me and struggle to sprout even the thinnest of whiskers.

What I don’t understand is Bristlr’s objective. Is it a dating app or just merely a social network for furry faces? You do need to like eachother’s profile before you can send them a message. Maybe I’m missing the point. However, if it is used to set up potential dates, a safeguard in place to stop people romancing multiple users at once by letting the receiver know the sender has sent the same message out to multiple accounts. Apparently this is quite common in the online dating world.

Yet this idea is great. It’s using a clearly huge fashion statement and turning it into an online community. You can even rate beards out of five in a Tumblr-esque mini game.
