Only hours have gone by since the announcement of Shenmue 3’s Kickstarter campaign and already they’re sitting on nearly $2.6 million dollars, more then $500,000 more than their originial target.

Yu Suzuki’s Shenmue originally came to us on the Sega Dreamcast in 1999 winning the hearts of gamers all over. He has a dream to build the next installment using a Kickstarter campaign. His dreams have come true very quickly.

Yu Suzuki took to the stage at this year’s E3 exhibition during the Playstation conference to countdown the Kickstarter campaign and to give a little bit of information promising to bring us a rich open-world RPG game, similar to what we’re used to.

Shenmue 2 first hit shelves 14 years ago so it’s about time the game came back.

There are several different tiers you can bid on in the campaign, the cheapest being £29 giving you a digital version of the game. For only $60 yo ucan get a Special Backer Edition of the game which comes physically to you. And for $100 you get all of the above plus your name in the credits.

Shenmue 3 is being built in the Unreal 4 engine.

Other games have found huge success from Kickstarter Campaigns including Star Citizen, which now sits at around £80 million raised. You can find more information on Shenmue 3 on their Kickstarter page.

Best of luck for the team working on Shenmue 3.

E3 is taking place in  LA and is considered the biggest games exhibition in the world.

YouTube are even streaming the event live this weekend.
