Electronic giant Samsung has just unveiled their next lineup of televisions at CES 2019. But this time rather than using the traditional technology we’ve seen, they’re using something that’s called Modular LED display technology.

They’ve showcased a variety of sizes, most notably a 75″ which is perfect for large living rooms, right up to a whopping 219″ which Samsung are dubbing The Wall. Also could be perfect for living room televisions. Imagine gaming on that monster!
“For decades, Samsung has lead the way in next-generation display innovation,” said Jonghee Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Our Micro LED technology is at the forefront of the next screen revolution with intelligent, customisable displays that excel in every performance category. Samsung Micro LED has no boundaries, only endless possibilities.”
How Does It Work?
Well that’s the question isn’t it. Samsung’s new televisions are made up of individual modules of self-emissive Micro LEDs which feature millions of inorganic red, green and blue microscopic LED chips that emit their own light to produce the colours on screen. Although we haven’t seen it in the flesh, we’re already certain that image quality is going to be stunning!
What is interesting is that customers can actually add modules to this design, so no matter how big or small your living space is, you will always be able to get the perfect television size for the area. And for those with more of a business focus like advertising, you can get really unconventional aspect ratios like 9:3 or 1:7 all because these things are fully modular. The home versions of this television, because of how packed in Samsung can get these micro LEDs, means you can experience awesome 4K imagery.
And lastly, the modular design is perfect as content can be optimised for the screen size and aspect ratio you’ve chosen, so no matter if the image is 1:1. 16:9, 21:9 or even 32:9, content is upscaled all the while keeping pixel density constant. Perfect tech for large display screens. And what more, there are no borders, so you can sit back and enjoy a completely bezeless television.
