Pixel Ripped, a nostalgic digital journey back to 1989 has just unveiled its Kickstarter campaign. The game features its protagonist, Nicola, a video game addict’s struggle to play her handheld console. But there’s a twist. This game is entirely designed for the Occulus Rift meaning that you’re essentially playing a game within a game. You have to defeat the distractions in order to get on with what is truly important; playing video games.
Pie-maker turned video game designer Ana Ribeiro is Brazil’s first ever VR developer battling visa issues in the UK. She, and colleague Stef Keegan, producer of Pixel Ripped 1989 started their Kickstarter campaign hoping that their dream would one day become a reality.
Stef and Ana have travelled to big name conferences such as E3 and Southwest VR to promote their exciting project. They have received huge support for the inventive title.
Pixel Ripped 1989 is aimed to be the first of a series of adventures. The designer duo would love to see gamer Nicola travel through time to play video games from different eras. Remember Pong and Frogger? Or maybe Sonic the Hedgehog?
“Getting this investment would really turn things around for us,” commented Stef Keegan. “Not only would it provide us with the funds to progress the game, but I hope it would give us a substantial enough reason for the UK government to let Ana stay in the UK!”
With 29 days to go, the Kickstarter campaign has already been hit by 154 backers raising just over £3,000 of their £40,000 target. Please check out the Pixel Ripped 1989 website.
