With more people gaining access to the world wide web every day it’s no surprise that it’s the people’s go-to tech for news.PR company 72Point who completed the research found that a whopping 76% of Brits now receive their news online rather than other outlets such as papers and magazines.
Social Media has apparently played a huge part in these findings with 70% saying social media has helped them stay on top of current news while 36% admitted to clicking through to news websites from social media.
Jack Peat, Head of Digital at 72Point, who conducted the research, said: “Our Media Consumption report demonstrated that the way we consume and interact with media is undergoing a seismic change.
“News is predominantly consumed on mobile devices and discovered socially, which means there is a thirst for more digestible content that can be delivered quickly with maximum impact.”
It is now said that one person accesses an average of six news stories a day with one in ten accessing more than 16 stories a day.
What is interesting that 36% of people felt more in control with the news they received. However, there is still a small percentage saying that news takes over their smartphone or computer screen while browsing social networking.
