So 2017 is long gone, and the phrase “New Year, New Me” is starting to come out of your friends and family member’s mouths. New Year’s is also a good time to start a resolution. Give up smoking? Make more time for loved ones? Or the most popular one of them all, losing weight. That’s where we are now, and the Modius is hopefully going to help us do that.

As someone who has been a member of several gyms, and given up on them, knows that those houses of fitness aren’t for everybody. Or there may be some of you that lead a very busy lifestyle, with kids or demanding jobs, and don’t have time for regular exercise. Again, Modius can help with that too.

Modius is a small plastic headset that sits over the crown of your head like a pair of headphones without the cans. Instead, it has two sticky pads that are meant to stick to an area just under your ear. It’s a small bony section of your head called the mastoids.

From here you switch the Modius headset on, and you will start to feel a vibration which is meant to stimulate the vestibular nerve. Stimulating this nerve activates the hypothalamus, which is responsible for the regulation of certain metabolic processes and other activities of the autonomic nervous system.

In a nutshell, the hypothalamus is responsible for your metabolic system, and with the vibration, could make you lose weight without working out. Modius recommend you only wear the headset for 45 minutes a day, which looking at some of their testimonials on their Facebook group, as more than enough time for people to start seeing results.

The headset comes with 10 speeds, in which the higher you go, the more vibration it sends down the nerve. It’s a strange sensation at first, and one that does feel quite foreign to the body, but you will soon get used to it. Watch a bit of TV while you wear it, the sensation will soon disappear.

There’s a lot of science going on here, and it goes a lot deeper than just purely vibrating one nerve. However, using it is a pretty simple venture. The box I received has a full detailed instruction manual inside to get you all set up, and the app that controls the actual headset is pretty simple and well laid out too.

However, for a better result, it’s best if you can adopt a healthy lifestyle. Get some exercise in, and start changing your diet. You can’t use this while gorging on an on-sale bar of Dairy Milk. Also, it’s recommended that you’re not moving when you use the headset too. So find a seat, get comfy, and start losing weight while doing it. You can find more information on the Modius website, and you can also head over to their Indiegogo campaign.
