Back again with a new Kickstarter that caught our eye, a portable, external speaker and light combo from Transparent. Transparent are a Stockholm based modular electronics brand and they are seeking $44,000 to get this new product to market.

I must admit, this looks really quite smart from the promotional images. It takes design elements from traditional lanterns, with a modern twist and as obviously comes with modern features. It’s constructed from borosilicate glass and aluminum grills, with a black powder-coated finish, I assume.

The LED lamp has been designed to look and feel like a real flame (without the heat!), from the light temperature and brightness right through to the characteristics of its movements. This is achieved with a vibrating bass-and-light element that sits at the base of the speaker and subtly glimmers and glows in response to the music. An additional directional knob also allows you to alter the light from the subtle burn of coals, flickering candlelight to even a bright white reading light. Colour temperature for the LED goes from 900K to 3500K, which is very warm when considering your standard warm white LED in your home is 2700-3000K.

The Light Speaker has a big, open, omnidirectional sound delivering rich bass, stable mid tones and crisp high notes. The glass cylinder creates a sealed valve for the passive 3” woofer sitting in the bottom and the dome shaped enclosure on the top holds a powerful 2.5” full range driver.

Other features include Bluetooth 5, IPX2 which means it’s ok to be used inside and out. It has a 10 hour battery life and a detachable handle for easy transportation.

49 days of funding starts today and I’m sure they will exceed their goal very quickly. The retail price is $370, so it’s not cheap at all and its audio performance needs to be fantastic to warrant that price. You can get an early bird version for $215, which is a little easier on the bank account.

Watching the promotional video, I think it looks very smart and I’m keep to try it out! If you want to pledge, head over to their Kickstarter page now.
