With Disney’s new Star Wars: The Force Awakens getting closer and closer to release, what’s better than celebrating their acquisition by building a new Star Wars themed Disney theme park?
Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO announced at D23 that they will be expanding their Orlando and Anaheim theme parks to include a new Star Wars Land in each one.
The expansion is planned to reach 14 acres in each park, Disney’s biggest expansion to date.
Now unfortunately I doubt it will be as big as the Epcot-esque custom picture above which was created by Star Wars fan Kevin Lynch for the Amazing Star Wars Facebook page, but we’re promised that it will include a brand new, never-before-seen planet to fall in line with their new film.
It was stated at their D23 event that there will even be restaurants and shops run by Star Wars characters bringing the new area completely to life. The Star Wars areas will put you in the middle of a battle between the First Order and The Resistance.
This isn’t the first time that Star Wars has been involved in a Disney Park. Disney’s MGM studios, now named Hollywood Studios, houses the extremely popular Star Tours ride which had its last update in 2011 to bring the more well-known characters like Darth Vader and C-3P0 into the mix. It even included a 3D screen for more immersion into the Star Wars universe.
Star Tours has been reported to be getting another update to include characters and locations of the new film.
