I’m a Canon fan, I have the M50 for my daily go to and it’s clear Canon are pushing their mirrorless range hard to the market. On the topic of pushing, they have just announced a new flag ship mirrorless camera, the EOS R5 and boy does it look like an absolute beast. They’re teasing at the moment, only a few things have been confirmed but it’s getting everyone a little bit flustered. Here’s what we know so far.

  • Full frame mirrorless
  • Sensor rumoured to be 45MP
  • 8K RAW internal recording upto 30fps
  • 4K internal recording upto 120fps
  • NO CROP 8K and 4K with Dual Pixel CMOS AF
  • 5 Axiz in body image stabilisation
  • Dual car slots: CFexpress/SD UHS-ll

Did I just type that? 8K @ 30FPS plus 4K @ 120FPS, oh boy! That is the thing of dreams for movie creators, new and old, amateur upto professional but then what about price? Rumours set the price at around £3,500 for body only and may seem alot at first, but it really isnt in the grand scheme of things.

The EOS R5 advances image quality to a whole new level for stills and movies with a blistering 20fps electronic shutter or 12fps mechanically. With advanced animal subject-tracking AF, The EOS R5 is able to recognise dogs, cats and birds detecting either the body, face, or eye of the subject.

We’ve also got this global pandemic right now and Canon have not yet announced when the camera will be available to purchase but chances are there will be further announcements in the next month or two, with a release date for Q3/4 of 2020.

Offering full sensor width 8K internal and external RAW recording at up to 29.97fps and 4K at up to 119.88fps* in either 4:2:2 10bit Canon Log or 4:2:2 10bit HDR PQ.

As for design, it is very similar to the original EOS R camera with hints of DSLR in there, such as the chunky grip. Ample buttons, a flip-out screen and inputs to suit every occasion. How they managed to cram all this into such a small looking body, baffles me.

Keep your eye out, more news will come on the Canon EOS R5 and alot of people are getting excited by it, me included.
