A recent survey have found that technology products such as MP3 players, digital cameras and a number of wearable devices will be redundant this year.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) asked YouGov to complete the survey for their 2015 study.

The IEEE selected specific product groups to present on the survey including laptops, e-readers, and music streaming services.

The questionnaire was presented to over 2000 people and discovered some very interesting results.

Out of the people asked 47% of them thought smartphones would be the most relevant technology moving forward followed closely by 37% saying tablets and 32% mentioning 3D printers. Home automation also came surprisingly high at 27%.

The rise of the smartphone has made other technologies suffer. Smartphones are capable of housing the several redundant technologies above. Who needs to carry around three or four devices when they only really  need one?
