With so many smart watches now available on the market, I find it very hard to know which one to go for. Each one does something slightly different from the last.  Functionality of the smart watch hasn’t interested me too much and I feel they are a little gimmicky. I feel I am a more classic watch wearer with minimal options. A watch needs to look good and tell the time, and that’s exactly what Vector I think are aiming for. We were sent a Vector Luna smartwatch to review, and it hasn’t left my wrist since receiving it a week ago.

First I would like to comment on how darn good these watches actually look. They come in a number of styles ranging from a metal or leather strap, to different looking stainless steel fascia cases to choose from. But as we received the Luna, we’re going to be looking at that.

The Luna watch has been built very well, and actually feels quite substantial when wearing it on your wrist. The leather strap makes it very comfortable to wear. Even sitting and typing at my desk I didn’t feel too bothered about the watch strap digging into the skin as my wrists rested on the table. The watch face itself is made from a stainless steel which looks great. It gives off a plain but stylish type look. There are fancier options to choose from.

Functionality is very basic, only offering you things like a step counter, which is pretty accurate, a stop-clock and timer. The app which is available for iOS and Android let you customise the type of apps on the watch, but not to a huge extent. I liked the feature of having the choice of watch faces. I am currently using a minimal two-handed watch face and no numbers to keep in line with the smooth styling of the product. There are loads to choose from and some with added clocks for different time zones, and a minute and second-hand clock.

The watch was extremely easy to sync with my phone. It connects via Bluetooth and there is no mucking around with pin codes. Just hold the watch close to your mobile and away you go, you’re synced. within seconds.

My biggest gripe about the watch is the dim backlight. There were times when I was in a darkened room and couldn’t read the watch properly. I would have liked to have seen a more powerful backlight. Secondly, to turn the backlight timer on, I had to click the side button. A flick of the wrist motion detection to get it switched on would have been a great feature.

The Luna Smartwatch comes in at around $300.00 and is available from the Vector website. I think this is a pretty fair price considering the build quality that has gone into it. It’s a very sexy smartwatch, and definitely one of the better looking ones out there. If it had a brighter and more responsive backlight, to me it would have been one of the best smartwatches I’ve seen to date. If you’re looking for a more traditional looking smartwatch, then this is definitely one to look out for.
