After a long await since their first mention of the console last year, Nintendo has given us a release date for the new Nintendo Switch games console, the latest edition to the living room ‘party style’ gaming experience.

Nintendo Switch is the console giant’s new flagship entertainment system. Nintendo is known for producing a party-centric console experience for their users, favouring actual gaming experience over things like graphics processing, framerates and speed of components inside.

What is new, and has not really been done on a console before is the ability to switch between portable and couch gaming in a seamless motion. The controller comes in two parts, called ‘Joy-Coms’. When being used on the go, the controllers attach to a small screen. But once you’re home, simply place the screen into the docking tray and the game will appear on your TV screen. The Joy-Cons can be used standalone or, each controller half can be used by two players simultaneously for two-player action.

Some of the stronger titles to appear on the new Nintendo Switch is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, an open-world Mario sandbox game and a new edition to the long running Mario Kart series which pits popular Nintendo characters against each other in a party racing style. We will be bringing reviews for you later on once we’ve got our hands properly on the games.

The console is powered by Nvidia’s Tegra processor and graphics processor. The specs can generally be found in some of Nvidia’s top tiered graphics cards, so Nintendo are on the right track to trail the PS4 and Xbox One. The GPU clocks at 768MHz when plugged in and 307.2MHz when used with the portable screen.

The Nintendo Switch is due for release in the UK on the 3rd of March, so not long left now. The console is going to be prices at a fair cost of £280, undercutting the Xbox and PS4 on release base price.
