Kaiser Baas X80 Action Cam Review
If someone said action cam to you, there’s no doubt that the first camera to come to mind is the GoPro. You’ve probably seen their fantastic marketing videos of people doing crazy stunts on Facebook or YouTube. But that doesn’t stop cheaper alternatives from trying to grab a piece of the action.
Take Australian manufacturer Kaiser Baas with their new X80 action cam. It’s light, uses pretty much 99.9% of GoPro accessories, and is actually a pretty good contender considering. This is definitely the camera that is going to give GoPro a run for its money.
The X80 camera is a solid action cam that can connect to many different parts of your body or apparatus such as surf board or car dashboard to record your adrenaline pumped moments. It captures footage is 1080p, but you’ll be sad to know that it will only capture at high-definition at 30 frames per second. There are higher refresh rates but you’ll be reducing the resolution of the footage. For example, you can shoot 720 at 60fps or 480p (standard definition) at 120fps. the 1080p high-definition recordings do look stunning though, and you can’t really fault the image quality that you get.
You’re given a maximum field of view of 120 degrees when shooting which is totally wide enough to film any kind of action. The Kaiser Baas X80 as an action camera is unobtrusive during those crucial moments – the weight is heavier than most over action cameras on the market – we didn’t see this as an issue.
Button layout is simple. There is only a total of two buttons on the camera. One for power and entering the menu and one for start and stop recording. This makes it a very simple camera to use, especially if you’re already in the action, such as snowboarding down the side of a mountain. The camera is shock and waterproof too, thanks to the supplied housing.
It connects to your computer via USB for file transfer and charging which makes it simple in the world of plug and play systems. There is no complex software to get your head around. simply drag and drop the video or photo files you want to put on your PC.
Taking on the likes of GoPro is a bold move, but one I think pays off in Kaiser Baas’ case. Their X80 is a superb little action cam,. and one that should definitely be considered if you’re in the market. It currently comes in at around $149.99, a fraction of the price of a GoPro.
