It’s no surprise that the graphics cards nVidia announced today at Gamescom were going to be expensive. If trends are anything to go by with their older GTX10 series, I thought they’d start a lot pricier than they actually are. Their entry level RTX2070 has been announced at $500.

To give you some more context, you may have noticed some of your favourite PC based tech brands sticking an nVidia green profile picture and banner across their social media pages. This was a PR stunt, to build hype around nVidia’s new announcements at Gamescom 2018. It worked, as thousands and thousands of people tuned in to watch on Twitch today.

nVidia announced several new Turing-based GPU cards based around a technology called Ray Tracing. Now ray tracing, or fancy lighting as I like to call it, is a global illumination technology and it’s something that’s been going on for a very long time. But because of the Turing technology and something called Tensor cores, it means that games and things like games and animations can be rendered in real time.

We were treated to some game trailers at Gamescom 2018, which is taking place in Cologne, Germany. The first was Shadow of the Tomb Raider, followed my Metro Exodus and finally finishing on Battlefield V. I’m not going to pick out individual items from each trailer, and just put them below for you to check out. I will say however that they all looked bloody amazing, and the ray tracing technology is definitely showing off just how powerful it actually is.

What more, is these cards start at $500. That’s for the entry level RTX 2070. Following this is an RTX 2080 priced at $699 while their flagship model, the RTX2080TI is priced at $1000. Expected really, except the low starting price. However, there are some Founders Edition card which have slightly higher Clock Speeds starting just above the non-Founders cards. Up to date pricing is on the nVidia website.
