Now you may not have too much space on your desk for large speakers, yet you want something you can use to play music, movies or even games. Then it’s worth checking out the G1000 speakers from Hecate, who are part of the Edifier family. These may seem familiar to some, as these are the mark 2 version of the G1000 speakers, and Hecate have tweaked the design and specification, for the better.
This is a 2.0 speaker set up, including 2.5mil full range drivers and up to 8 watts total output. Powered via USB, either through your PC or a nearby power socket, you can connect to them via Bluetooth, AUX or USB A or C.
A striking, bold, transparent cover over a mech-like detail to the front, including colour-changing LEDs, these will fit it perfectly with any gaming set-up. They come in three colours, black, white or pink. They’re compact, well-built, they sit on two rubber feet and angle ever so slightly up, to direct the audio towards you. The right speaker is the master, the left the sleeve, and they’re connected together via a hardwired speaker cable. From the right, you can plug these in, as well as plug in your aux lead if desired. You’ll note that at the rear of each speaker, there is a bass port to help with performance.

Controls are located on the top of the right hand speaker, and include power on/off, volume, input select and mode select. Three modes are available and are identifiable by the colour of the LED ring as you select through. Purple for music, red for gaming and blue for movie mode. Changes between modes are subtle when I tried each one out and it’s great to have the option there.
There are 9 dynamic RGB lighting effects built into the speakers, and they include various colours, solid, pulsing and a combination of them all too.
Overall, I’ve been rather impressed with these little speakers. The visual upgrade from the original design is superb, and the performance is surprising. Playing music, games, or watching YouTube, it was surprising, and felt like the audio was coming from something larger and more powerful. The bass is limited and yes, these cannot be compared to something larger like the G5000 speakers, which will blow you away, but they’re more expensive and they wouldn’t fit on my desk. With a retail price of £60 here in the UK, they’re certainly work taking a look at.
