It’s no surprise that gaming on your mobile phone is becoming more popular over time. It’s even predicted that mobile gaming will take over consoles by the end of 2015. And why shouldn’t it? We all walk around with some kind of smart device in our pocket well, the majority of us. A new study by mobile insurers Insurance2Go have found that 71% of the UK play games on their mobile. Half of them admitted to playing mobile games for over an hour a day.
For the first time ever mobile gaming is set to eclipse the console gaming market. It already has a 42% increase in year-on-year value in 2015. This figure would take the industry’s value to approximately $30.3bn.
Critics have even got involved saying the mobile gaming industry is built on simplicity and reward, but what’s wrong with that? Some of the biggest games in history have come out of the mobile industry such as Angry Birds and Plants Vs. Zombies.
An interesting fact, there are more women mobile gamers than men according to a poll which found 51% of women playing games. The console and PC gaming department is still dominated by men.
Duncan Spencer, Managing Director of Insurance2Go said: “It’s fascinating to see how the advancements in mobile phone technology have had such a powerful and lasting impact on the gaming industry – and we hope that the accessibility of mobile games will benefit the market as a whole and lead to ever more advanced handsets to enjoy them off”.
