Can We Expect A Next Gen Xbox?
Phil Spencer announced this week at the end of the Xbox E3 2018 conference that “Microsoft are making new Xbox consoles.” Could the next-generation Xbox console be closer than we think? And before you ask, no that’s not a typo, he really did say consoles. Spencer previously said that they are working on a game streaming network, with the desire to unlock console gaming on any device.
This news came at the same time as Xbox announcing that they are working with several new studios – Ninja Theory, Playground Games, Undead Labs and Compulsion Games – as well as building their own new studio internally named The Initiative.
As normal no dates where given but he did give a time frame. During an article with Bloomberg he said “Microsoft will probably debut a streaming service that doesn’t require a console for some types of content in the next three years.”
That article was posted in 2017, so the Brad Sams tip that the next Xbox was due for release in 2020, seems pretty fair. Sams goes on to say that the next gen Xbox console is also known as Scarlet and that Microsoft are describing them as a family of devices. Could this mean we could finally see the Xbox TV we believed to be coming in 2016 built into a media centre type console with the ability to stream games from the host machine? I hope so.
