“We save balls”, that’s the tag line for the product I’m looking at today. A company aptly named Balls, has created a trimmer, a trimmer specifically designed for a man’s downer region. They’re saying that 62% of men trim or shave their balls, which I get, as we all know it makes something look bigger. Anyway, let’s see what the deal is and whether this trimmer is any good.
The USP for this trimmer is its SackSafe™ Technology, which is a Patent pending blade, designed to glide through thick hair without any pulling, tugs or nicks. The trimmer is also showerproof, meaning you can use it in or out the shower and it will withstand the odd splash. This doesn’t mean it’s waterproof, so do not submerge it in water! The trimmer hits speeds of 6000rpm and is cordless, it has an internal, rechargeable battery, which can be charged via the provided USB C cable plugged into your socket, pc or similar. The 600mAh battery is set to last around one hour.

The trimmer is black, it’s got a single illuminated power button and a USB port on the bottom. It’s made from plastic, it’s lightweight and has a rubbery finish to it, which helps with gripping it. Included in the box are the trimmer inc blade, cable, cleaning brush and two length adapters 3-4 and 5-6. This means you can go straight in with no adapter or trim hair to a length of your choosing. There are two adapters but they’ve been designed to be used as two different lengths and will depend on which way you secure it to the blade. It’s hard to explain but check the image below, there is a guard of sorts to the underside of the blade, which I have seen on similar products before but not like this.
The blade is replaceable, with new available to purchase, which suggests and as expected, the blade will get blunt and performance will deteriorate. Looking on their website, the only way to get a new blade is via a subscription service, £10 every three months you will get a replacement (cancel anytime).

Righto, onto trying this trimmer. I have a beard, I’ve had multiple trimmers before and I know what I’m doing, so let’s ease into this and start on the face. Illustrated and well-worded instructions are provided 😀
Firstly, it’s very easy to charge as you do not require a shaver socket to charge, which most other brands insist on. I actually charged it via my alarm clock, which I usually use to charge my phone overnight. It’s also very easy to use, just turn it on and go, no adjustments, set up or oiling required. The adapters fit on easily and get pushed on top of a couple of notches on the blade itself, keeping it firmly in place.
It performed very well as a trimmer, it effortlessly glided through my beard which was circa 10mm thick. It offers a fairly fine shave but nowhere near as clean-cut as a wet shave or the Philips One Blade, so I was left with a fine stumble (as expected). I can confirm that the SackSafe technology worked, everything is intact and safe. It’s also very easy to clean, give it a blow and then use the brush to get the final few hairs out if needed.
I’ve tried several trimmers in the past and I was pleasantly surprised with how well this one performed. At £55, it’s fairly priced in the market and I would recommend it. For more info and to purchase, head over to the official BALLS website.
