We’re constantly being told that natural resources are running out. Scientists have been experimenting for years on how we can preserve what we have. Some say they’ll run out soon, others say we have hundreds of years left. Who knows. But there are ways we can cut down on how much pollution we emit to our atmosphere.

Cars are one of the biggest polluters on the planet, and that’s why Toyota have stepped in. Toyota have created a zero-emissions, hydrogen-powered vehicle known as the Toyota Mirai. The Mirai made its first journey today bombing it past London’s landmarks.

The car has been called near-silent while in motion. It also produced no exhaust pollution. Rather than dumping harmful gasses it pumps out water vapour.

The Mirai will arrive with the new 65-plate registration.

Mirai means ‘future’ in Japanese, and that is exactly what Toyota is going for. Toyota have put this saloon vehicle into full production making it the world’s first fuel cell car to make it to production level. Toyota has claimed that the Mirai will act like a conventional car even though it uses Toyota’s advanced fuel technology.

The way the car works is very similar to a petrol motor. Hydrogen is stored in high pressure tanks and used to generate electricity. Very efficient and very clean.

The UK is among Toyota’s first European markets for Mirai, its introduction linked to the development of a national infrastructure for supplying and selling hydrogen fuel.

The cost to own one of these clean pristine vehicles starts at around £66,000 before any Government incentive goes on top. Toyota and other UK car dealers are expected to run attractive leasing contracts in the future once the car has been fully released.
